On this episode of Bonehead, Doug and Liz will replace the deck that Doug managed to destroy with a redneck firepit.
Here is the deck and you can still see the hole in the floor.
First step DIY fans is to demolish the old deck or as we in the business like to say, "DEMO" it.
Now boys and girls, the base is the most important part and you need heavy equipment so pay an experienced contractor to do this part, or in our case, a neighbor with a Bobcat.
After dry fitting the first course we discovered a 1.25" difference, so we cut the sidewalk back to make a perfect fit.
This is a very manly tool, so only a very masculine man should try this maneuver.
Tamp like your name is Thumper. Use a piece of conduit to get it all level.
The next step is to pour sand and level it off, so bring in sand, ...... and then more sand, and..... more sand ...... and trust me, it never stops with the sand!
Then you need some paver layers, and some paver toters, and some really good knee pads.
Liz telling Jeff to get her some damn pavers :)
Then tamp like your name is Thumper and sweep more sand into the cracks.
Be sure to have lots of friends before you start. (Cause you might not have as many when you are finished)

And finally, a proper firepit!!
So, what do you think? Is this a more appropriate place to have a fire on a romantic evening with a full moon!
